Our MIS leadership, after pathetically proving how inefficient and incompetent they are during the last couple of days, has decided to block access to blogger (including many other commonly accessed sites/blogs - not to mention some banking sites) from our network. And I do not have an internet connection at home. So that may well mean that I am forced to abandon my blog, unless I find a house with a fixed line telephone, so I could blog from home.
So folks, if this is the end, thank you so much for reading my blog over the past 3+ years and making comments. I got to know many nice people through the blog and wish them all the best in their lives.
Any one could reach me at blogger@icloneable.com
Well the alternatives are to post via email to blogger and view content via proxy.
ReplyDeleteDon't give up mate.. keep the fight going.. not that I blog on a regular basis too.. (courtesy how busy I've gotten at work) but it's good to know that your trust blog is waiting for you to rant at any time you feel like it.
Would hate to lose a fellow Blogger.
Thats sad to hear. Would be intersting to know whether the real reason is to save some network bandwith or to restrict employees from blogging. If its the latter, it could be due to 2 reasons, ie: Restrict employees from discussing coperate matters within blogosphere or save time so that saved time could be used for project work.
ReplyDeleteWhatever is the reason, its not good. Its an era where most big companies move to and encourage blogs within intranets and also on external web eg: Sun, Accenture. That is because its accepted as a good and healthy as long as employees are using it in a responsible manner. Given that it has been used fairly in a responsible manner, its really sad if this is really materialised.
So "Mahasen Doesn't Blogging" going to be the new blog title? :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm just kidding. Don't let the network guys at your company to kill such a wonderful blog. As Chaar suggested, set your e-mail posting setting and use e-mails to post to blogger. And, BTW may be some of those anonymizer sites we use to view Tamilnet, can be helpful for you. If your network guys blocked blogger at domain level, you can use an anonymizer site to access blogger. Then, your proxy will see the URL of the anonymizer site, but blogger will work on a seperate frame in the same window.
Just write when ever possible mate. We will remember you. Always read your blog. At my office people are more scared of going information out through blogs than inefficiency. Don't worry. Just write when possible.
ReplyDeleteJust type your blog entry in word and goto a Web Cafe and post it,just 5 minutes job, don't give stupid reasons man
ReplyDeleteOnly to be expected in a Sri Lankan company machan. But like others mentioned, you have so many options. I mean I dont regularly follow your blog and have in many cases disagreed with what you said, but it doesnt mean I like someone 'having' to move out of blogging.
ReplyDeleteUse the email posting option Mahasen! And of course, you can still use proxies like http://www.myinternetproxy.com/
ReplyDeleteThis happens. Companies try to filter out what they think as unwanted. Some time ago most companies banned IM. Then later realized its a good way for co workers to keep in touch when teams are moved overseas etc.
ReplyDeleteTry to find an alternate method to get the word out. Most local companies have yet to wake up to the potential of blogging.
Don't give up just yet.
Hey dilantha, Office hours are for official work. If you may not be a office worker, you may not understand the value of it. If you really want to blog then you can do it after work. No restrictions at all. Why don't you think in that way?
ReplyDeleteHey....
ReplyDeleteGo for Dialog WiMAX...
Not WiMAX, but broadband over CDMA....
1 Meg connection costs about 4000 SLR.
If you want more details about this WiMAX, buzz me through google.
Hi..
ReplyDeleteIts very sad... but this happens in most of the companies. So best thing is bare with this situation and change our attitude and find an alternate method to blog, in a way it is not affect to your company's task.

ReplyDeleteUnless u feel lethargic with this
;-)
hey commooon you can easily afford an ADSL connection :-) Why worry ?????
ReplyDeleteBogging is really good and I see many SL blogs which share so much of valuable information in many different knowledge areas..
You may have faced this situation due to some few people who might be misusing the facilities ..
Dont give up.. I always read your blog and I find its interesting.. get a home connection soon,!
Whatever you decide, best wishes.
ReplyDeleteSeems rather ironic, you posted this on Friday the 13th, a day that is supposed to be bad luck.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, keep writing, on holidays, after hours or whatever.
you can go to a internet cafe for just 20/-... This is a shame reason to stop blogging.. I don't think reason is that. If u;ve fedup with blogging it's a different story, bad excuse brought forward.
ReplyDeleteHere is an answer from Malinthe about the problem of being forced to abandon your blog. So you do not need to find a house with a fixed line telephone anymore!, you can continue to blog from home, using a CDMA phone like what Malinthe http://malinthe.blogspot.com uses to maintain his blog.
ReplyDeleteසන්ටෙල් CDMA දත්ත වේගය
http://malinthe.blogspot.com/2007/08/cdma-suntel-cdma-data-speeds.html
You can get some details about how to get a Suntel CDMA phone from http://www.suntel.lk/pands/cdma.php
Mahasen may come back to blogging. He has moved to a new house with a fixed line phone.
