Is Vesak a global holiday?

Today is Vesak. The day on which the prince siddhartha became enlightened (and was born and died on as well). Buddhists all around the world commemorate this day.
Some time back I remember it was news that Vesak was made a global holiday. But my friends abroad says it is not... hmm...

  1. We are all at work today, nobody here has any idea of a wesak.

I too remember some politicians claiming that it was made an international holiday.

    No idea..

  5. If nobody has any idea of Wesak, what is the point of making a global holiday?

  6. That's exactly the point why it should be made a global holiday!

  7. it is a holiday in certain countries.

It is a holiday in Singapore, Malaysia and HK (where it seems to be called Buddha's Birthday) - I am looking at a Diary given by a Singaporean firm it has holidays marked for the above countries plus Australia, China and the US
