They are here cos the govt and tigers are busy bombing their houses and area where they do regular business. There are daily aerial bombardments by SLAF. They also flee the LTTE harassment and their kids being forced to join the tigers.
2. Almost all Tamils from north east has someone living abroad. All lodgers here get their money wired to them from some place in the west. They don't earn that money locally or while they were in the north east.
3. Their primary goal is to get out of the country. This generally takes several months to a year. They will do whatever it takes to leave this place. Cos they've had it pretty bad here already.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832831.post-26159961718477852792007-06-09T07:21:00.000-04:002007-06-09T07:21:00.000-04:00The police can take anyone into custody under the ...The police can take anyone into custody under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and emergency laws.

I believe these lodges are already monitored with the owners submitting into on the people staying to the police.

The fact that they did not take anyone into custody shows that they had absolutely no evidence of anything.

Actually, this may not have been the first lot that were cleared.

Remember the beggars, half a dozen of whom were always around each of the major traffic lights in the city? Ever wondered what happened to them? They all disappeared overnight about 6-10 months ago. One or two have now returned but most have vanished. May have been removed in a similar operation.

Anyway who knows if Tigers only stay in lodges? How many are in the slums of Colombo, disguised as beggars etc?Jack Pointhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00324737814154929009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832831.post-40493197381332504202007-06-08T23:05:00.000-04:002007-06-08T23:05:00.000-04:00So, would registering them as IDP have been a bett...So, would registering them as IDP have been a better approach?

Do you think there was no security threat in it? Couldn't at least 1% of them have been spying for LTTE or worse?

Of cause if it's as little as that it wouldn't have justified evicting them.Mahasenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02360695598703246075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832831.post-18202612043542063082007-06-08T12:41:00.000-04:002007-06-08T12:41:00.000-04:00Well incidents such as these are the ones that mak...Well incidents such as these are the ones that makes ppl realise its more of an ethnic issue and not JUST a terrorist issue.
As for the reasons, do u think the tamils who fled from the war torn cities have access to good health care or have ability to go abroad from jaffna. They do need to colombo.
But dont counteract and just say only the people without reasons were evacuated cos that was NOT the case.
Reading ur blogs u do seem to have a clear head so do think or atleast try to think before coming to any conclusionsAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832831.post-55080793860467121602007-06-08T09:07:00.000-04:002007-06-08T09:07:00.000-04:00I think the money comes from friends and family ov...I think the money comes from friends and family overseas. Some are supported by handouts by friends/family in the south i think.

There is minimal economic activity to speak of in the N & E, most people rely on handouts.

Presumably they were on the run from the LTTE/war. You need to talk to the people to find out and I doubt if they have internet access.

Lets see if the Sunday Papers carry any investigative stories.Jack Pointhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00324737814154929009noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7832831.post-506743249901847152007-06-08T08:40:00.000-04:002007-06-08T08:40:00.000-04:00This is the the Justification for Tamil Eelam. Can we be 100% sure that these people didn't have a proper reason, or whether it wasn't "proper" in the eyes of the military? Maybe it's just me, but this whole operation seems a bit fishy.
2 girls working in my mother's office were told to leave their lodgings and when they asked where they were supposed to go, they were told to find a place to stay in Wellawatte!
Let's just hope that we're not ill treating innocent tamils who are not in Colombo to bomb us.Kalhariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05496112092483579948noreply@blogger.com
