A Guide to Buddhist Monasteries and Meditation Centres in Thailand

I'm planning to go on a vacation during december... Thought of India and Thailand. So searched google for "thailand buddhist monasteries" and found this excellent guide to thai monasteries and meditation centres.
At first I was planning to go alone, but when I told it to my sister (chuti akka) she wanted to join in as well... Still don't know how it would turn around. But I'm dead serious about this... Hope this project I'm currently working on would finish by then.

  2. Thanks Kirosh. I’m planning to be a disciple in a monastery for few weeks. Not looking for any pleasure. Western Thailand also has pure Theravada Buddhism. Ven. Ajan Braham, Ven. Ajan Sumedo and many other meditation teachers started their meditation in Thailand. I’m planning to attend the monastery of late Ven. Ajan Cha.

  5. Hi Mahasen,

I went though your Thailand monasterie guide and found that it is really lnteresting. As I have discussed with you some old meditation techniques are still using in thailand,i got suprised from it.Do a search in that doc with the key word "Ven Mahasi Sayadaw".you will find some centers. Ven Mahasi Sayadw has written a book for meditation with 800 pages which was based on his meditation practices. There are some places of srilanka that practice this technique. This is just for your information.

  6. Yes, Ven Mahasi Sayadaw’s is the famous Burmese monk who’s believed to have had attain arahat. Ven Mahasi Sayadaw’s techniques of meditation is practiced in Kanduboda and other affiliated meditation retreats island wide. Ven. Madawala Upali thero is teaching this meditation technique in the Kanduboda retreat.
There were some controversies some time back over this as this method of anapanasathi concentrates on the rising of the stomach which is contradictory to the anapanasathi sutta.

  8. You could visit the Buddhist society of western australia web site at http://www.bswa.org/. I do not have the email address of Ajahn Brahm.

BTW Bhikku Abhaya, one of the disciples of Ajahn Brahm, is in Sri Lanka at the vipassana centre in Gregary road. And is conducting meditation classes in both Sinhala and English. He's to start meditation classes in Kandy from next month onwards at the YMBA and Asgiriya temple.
